Introduction
Planning a trip to India? Great choice! But before you book your flights to see the Taj Mahal or Goa’s beaches, let’s sort out the most confusing part—The Visa.
A lot of travelers ask us at Travel Indica: “Can I just land in India and get a visa?” or “Do I need to visit the embassy?”
Don’t worry. As a leading travel agency, we help thousands of travelers plan their journeys. Here is the simple truth about entering India in 2026, without the complicated legal language
Is a Visa on Arrival Possible in India? (Fact Check)
Many blogs give outdated info. Here is the reality:
Yes, but it is VERY limited.
Most people think “Visa on Arrival” means anyone can fly in and get a stamp. That is false.
Currently, the true Visa on Arrival (VoA) facility is only available for citizens of 3 specific countries:
- Japan
- South Korea
- UAE (Only if they have obtained an e-Visa or regular visa for India in the past).
👉 For everyone else (USA, UK, Canada, Europe, Australia, etc.): You need an e-Tourist Visa. You must apply online before your flight. You cannot just show up at the airport without it.
Which Countries Can Travel to India Without a Visa?
There are only two neighbors who have this special freedom:
- Nepal
- Bhutan
Citizens of these two nations can live and work in India freely. Everyone else—even babies—needs a valid visa to enter.
Do UAE Residents Need a Visa for India?
Yes. Being a UAE resident (having a Dubai work permit) doesn’t give you visa-free entry. It depends on your Passport.
- If you hold a UAE Passport: Yes, you are eligible for Visa on Arrival (if you meet the conditions mentioned above).
- If you live in UAE but hold a Philippines/UK/Pakistan passport: You follow the rules of your passport country, not your residency.
Process: How to Get Your Visa (The Easy Way)
Since 90% of travelers need the e-Tourist Visa, here is how it works. It’s completely online—no need to visit any embassy.
Step 1: Apply 4 Days Early
Don’t leave it for the last day. The government site can be slow. We recommend applying at least 4-5 days before your flight.
Step 2: Documents You Need
- A scan of your Passport (Bio Page).
- A recent photo (White background, square size).
- Tip: Phone selfies usually get rejected. Use a proper scanned photo.
Step 3: Can We Travel in Flight Without a Visa in India?
No. The airline check-in staff will ask for your ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). If you don’t have this printed paper or email, they won’t let you board the plane. The actual visa stamp happens after you land in India.
Visa Costs (2026 Estimates)
How much is a 30 day e-Visa for India?
The price changes based on when you visit. The government encourages tourism during summer.
| Season | Months | Approx Fee |
| Cheaper Season | April to June | ~$10 USD |
| Peak Season | July to March | ~$25 USD |
| 1 Year Visa | All Year | ~$40 USD |
(Note: Bank charges are extra. If you use Travel Indica’s assistance service, a small service fee applies for error-free filing.)
